Reihan Ebrahimi, an Iranian-born ceramic artist, currently divides her time between Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal and Tehran. Having moved to Canada in 2015, she earned her BFA in ceramics from Concordia University in 2020.

The primary approach in Ebrahimi’s work is remaking, nurtured by the interplay of her studio practice, personal experiences, and research on historical artifacts. Her use of clay becomes a poetic intervention, addressing questions of cultural identity and offering alternative perspectives rooted in various civilizations. Through research-based installations, she intricately weaves the study of cultural histories with the exploration of diverse qualities found in ceramic materials.

Driven by socio-political concerns within the Iranian cultural context, she challenges one-sided narratives imposed by “globalization.” Simultaneously, her more intuitive explorations into the “unconscious” involve interaction with ceramic material creating abstract organic forms that encapsulate her inner world, emotions, and experiences.

Her work has been showcased in Montreal and Tehran, and she has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Notably, in 2022, Reihan was awarded the NCECA Helene Zucker Seeman Curatorial Fellowship. Currently, she is an artist in residence at the European Ceramic Work Center (EKWC) in the Netherlands during the Winter of 2024.
