Inspired by the Persian spiritual practice, Chelle Nishini (40 days of meditative retreat for self-care in solitude), Loop in Loop is a sculptural documentation of 40 days of interaction with the ceramic piece constructed in the shape of entangled rings. Although the piece is made of solid and fragile material, I designed it as a modular sculpture to be played with.
Constructed during the first COVID lockdown, and over the course of 40 days, I communicated with the object. Each day, I captured a gesture which reflected my day. This observation became my way of journaling during a period of uncertainty which fluctuated my mood and understanding of the world.
Loop in Loop embarks on an inquiry into the complex relationship between the conscious and unconscious layers of the mind and how it captures time. By displaying the images and presenting the modular object, this installation provides an experiment to reflect the relationship between the existence of infinite possibilities and the conditions that constrain our realities.
The audience is encouraged to engage in a tactile and sonic experience, manipulating the sculpture while paying attention to 40 photographs accompanying the work in various forms or watching a live projection of the manipulation.
Inspiré par la pratique spirituelle perse, Chelle Nishini (40 jours de retraite méditative pour prendre soin de soi dans la solitude), Loop in Loop est une documentation sculpturale de 40 jours d’interaction avec la pièce en céramique construite en forme d’anneaux enchevêtrés. Bien que la pièce soit faite d’un matériau solide et fragile, je l’ai conçue comme une sculpture modulaire avec laquelle on peut jouer.
Construite pendant le premier verrouillage du COVID, j’ai communiqué avec l’objet pendant 40 jours. Chaque jour, je capturais un geste qui reflétait ma journée. Cette observation est devenue ma façon de tenir un journal pendant une période d’incertitude qui a fait fluctuer mon humeur et ma compréhension du monde.
Loop in Loop s’engage dans une enquête sur la relation complexe entre les couches conscientes et inconscientes de l’esprit et la façon dont il saisit le temps. En affichant les images et en présentant l’objet modulaire, cette installation offre une expérience pour réfléchir à la relation entre l’existence de possibilités infinies et les conditions qui contraignent nos réalités.
Le public est encouragé à s’engager dans une expérience tactile et sonore, en manipulant la sculpture tout en prêtant attention à 40 photographies accompagnant l’œuvre sous diverses formes ou en regardant une projection en direct de la manipulation.
